Pomona Park Man Arrested on Burglary Charges

Joseph Maddox Pomona Park - A Pomona Park man has been arrested for burglarizing a home and stealing from his mother's fiancée. On April 14, 2015, Deputy Tyler Miller responded to a residence on Silver Beach Blvd., in Pomona Park to a reported burglary of a residence. Deputy Miller met with the homeowner who reported that someone had entered his residence and while inside had stolen $500.00 in cash from his dresser.

Deputy Miller's investigation revealed that the suspect entered the residence through a garage window and stole the currency from on top of a dresser while inside. Deputy Miller spoke with a neighbor who informed him that a subject named Joseph Maddox was observed walking to the victim's residence earlier in the day. Deputy Miller discovered footprints at the scene and in the roadway leading to and away from the residence. Deputy Miller showed the shoe impressions to the victim's fiancée who informed him that she believed the shoe impressions belonged to her son, Joseph.

Deputy Miller relocated to a residence on Echo Trail in Pomona Park, and met with Joseph Maddox. Deputy Miller explained to Maddox the evidence obtained during his investigation. Maddox consented to an interview, and after completing the interview, he was arrested for burglary and grand theft.

Joseph Maddox was booked into the Putnam County Jail where he is being detained with a bond of $10,008.00.

Murder Indictment Returned In West Putnam Case

Richard Gertler Palatka, FL – A Grand Jury convened on Monday, April 13, 2015 and has returned an indictment in the murder of Floyd “Andy" Parrish. The grand jury indictment charges Richard Gertler, 53, with first degree murder, grand theft, burglary of a vehicle and theft of a vehicle.

The indictment follows a lengthy investigation by Putnam County Detectives into the disappearance of Parrish. Gertler was identified as a suspect in Parrish's death during the investigation.

Gertler is currently in the Alachua County Jail on separate charges related to this case. Mr. Parrish was last seen by family members on Friday January 2, 2015 in Athens, Georgia and was believed to be traveling to Putnam County. Parrish's Ford Explorer was found abandoned in Jacksonville on January 3, 2015. Parrish's remains were found on January 8, 2015, buried in a wooded area located in a rural and isolated portion of Marion County, Florida. Parrish's remains were sent to the District Five Medical Examiner's Office in Leesburg, Florida for a post mortem examination to establish a positive identification and to determine a cause of death. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no additional information is available at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available for release.

Undercover Facebook Page Nets Arrest

Charles Morris Palatka, FL – Putnam County Sheriff's Office Detectives and Palatka Police Department Officers have arrested Charles Dwayne Morris, 54, after a month long undercover investigation. Morris contacted detectives via a fictitious facebook page designed to capture criminals. Morris initiated conversation with and solicited sex from an undercover officer who was posing as a young teenage girl. The undercover officer eventually sent Morris a message back indicating she was under 18. Morris acknowledged and later agreed to meet the undercover officer at a location away from his home. Detectives intercepted Morris just before he met the undercover. Morris was interviewed by detectives and subsequently arrested. He is charged with two counts of enticing or luring a child and two counts of traveling to meet after using a computer to lure a child. Morris is currently held at the Putnam County Jail without the benefit of a bond.

Sheriff Hardy said he wants to remind everyone to be vigilant about their child's activities online. Sheriff Hardy also encourages parents to keep an open dialogue with their children about their online whereabouts and to be proactive in reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Large Marijuana Growing Operation Uncovered in Interlachen Area

Richard IwanickiInterlachen, FL: Richard Iwanicki was arrested on Monday, April 6, 2015, by Putnam Couty Sheriff's Office Drug and Vice Detectives after an investigation determined that he was responsible for an illicit marijuana growing operation at 116 Bessie Lane in Interlachen. Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission contacted the Sheriff's Office after they discovered Iwanicki in the process of cultivating an outdoor marijuana grow operation. Sheriff's detectives assumed the investigation and were assisted by the FWC Officers.

After a search warrant for the residence was obtained, detectives located an elaborate hydroponic marijuana growing operation. Detectives confiscated 72 mature marijuana plants and processed marijuana with a street value of approximately $80,000.00. Two truck loads of equipment used to cultivate marijuana including lights and irrigation systems were also seized by law enforcement officers. Investigators were able to determine that Iwanicki resides in St. Augustine and only used the Interlachen rental home as a location to house the illegal marijuana growing operation. Iwanicki told detectives that he has no ties to Putnam County other than he needed a rural location to conceal his growing operation.

Iwanicki was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana in excess of twenty grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Iwanicki was booked into the Putnam County Jail and has since been released on a $3,512.00 bond.

Witness Information Sought Related to Interlachen Robbery

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a potential witness to the robbery and shooting that occurred on March 24, 2015, at the China Wok Restaurant, located at 1114 State Road 20 in Interlachen.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are trying to locate an individual that was occupying a red Jeep (unknown year or model) that was parked in the parking lot near the restaurant at the time of the incident.
