Interlachen Man Arrested after Standoff
Interlachen, FL: At approximately 5:10 pm on Wednesday June 25, 2014, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 207 Magnolia Street, Interlachen, FL in reference to an armed subject firing shots at his brother. On arrival contact was made with Timothy Burroughs who said his brother, Thomas Burroughs, had fired shots trying to kill him and was still armed inside the residence. Deputies made contact with Thomas using the public address system on a patrol car. Initially Thomas told deputies he had a gun and refused to come out of the house. After numerous additional attempts to communicate, Thomas came to an open window and said he also had a bomb and would kill himself and blow up the house. Patrol Sergeant Timothy Frill continued to attempt to calm Thomas down and draw him into conversation. Eventually, Thomas agreed to put down the gun and come outside where he was immediately taken into custody. A search of the house revealed a Savage 270 caliber rifle, a 9mm Kel-Tec semi-automatic handgun and a small explosive device similar to an M-80.
Sheriff Jeff Hardy said “I am very pleased with the way Sergeant Frill and the other deputies handled this potentially volatile situation. It could easily have ended much differently. However, due to their patience and restraint, no one was hurt including Mr. Burroughs”.
Burroughs was placed under arrest and transported to the Putnam County Jail where he was booked on the following charges. He is currently being held without the benefit of a bond.
- One count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- One count of the Possession of Explosives
- One count of Making a Bomb Threat
