|Palatka, FL: On Sunday, May 5, 2013, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Sergeant Daniel Taylor with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, observed a vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Reid Street and 11th Street.
When Sergeant Taylor initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and accelerated to speeds of 50-60 mph. The driver, identified as Antione Clark stopped the 2002 Saturn at the intersection of Carr Street and Fern Street and ran away on foot.
Sergeant Taylor pursued Clark even after Clark leaped over two fences. Hot on his heals, Sergeant Taylor apprehended Clark before he scaled another fence.
Clark informed Sergeant Taylor that he did not have a driver’s license and that was the reason he ran. Upon checking the validity of Clark’s statement, Sergeant Taylor learned that Clark is a habitual traffic violator as of 2003.
Upon checking Clark’s person before being transported to the Putnam County Jail, Sergeant Taylor located approximately 1 gram of marijuana in Clark’s pants pocket. As Sergeant Taylor placed the loose marijuana on the trunk of his car, Clark huffed and puffed and blew the marijuana off of the trunk. A routine search of the vehicle yielded 2 bags of marijuana, less than 20 grams.
Clark was arrested and charged with Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Driving While License Suspended/Revoked-Habitual, Resisting Law Enforcement without Violence, Possession of Marijuana Less Than 20 Grams, Destruction of Evidence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Clark was given a bond in the amount of $4,524.00.
